| Harmatan's tannery in Higham Ferrers, England was established in the early 1980's,
primarily to supply the finest quality vegetable tanned goatskins for bookbinders. Rapidly the Harmatan
reputation for exceptional quality spread amongst specialist binders in the United Kingdom and around
the World. |
 |
| In addition to the notable Harmatan Goatskins, this traditionally tanned range also includes smooth
grained Calfskin's. |
 |
| All Harmatan goatskins originate from Kano and Sokoto regions of Nigeria. These goatskins are used
exclusively because of their exceptionally beautiful natural grains and for the time honoured quality of
their tannage. |
 |
| As the skins arrive in England, they are again carefully selected to ensure just the finest choice
skins are picked for bookbinders leathers. |
 |
| Harmatan's tannage technique follows historic tradition, using Sumach and other materials of pure
vegetable origin. The leathers resulting from this process offer the binder a supreme quality tanned
skin that emphasises the leather's natural beauty and grain. |
 |
| All Harmatan's Goatskins are Aniline Dyed, and when dry are hand polished, drawing out the natural
grain, creating the superior finish of the "Harmatan Fine Leather Range". |
